I don't know much of anyone who hasn't been negatively affected by the new tobacco excise tax voted on and approved in the 2016 election and a major source of revenue, in both taxes and cash influx for businesses is going to take a major and painful hit economically. I'm not among those who voted to slap the state's biggest cash cow around for greed and probably slapped too hard. I'm also not among those who will have to learn better. This is blatantly obvious looking into the eyes of the employee behind the counter in a quaint little Mom & Pop that's not exactly a Mom & Pop and yet, it is. The environment is fairly clean and relaxed and it has a share of little novelties. Incense, the natural fixture of every smoke shop and tobacco outlet in the country was on display, the glass display cases that double as a front counter exactly where they should be, and the dude at the counter watching everyone's comings and goings with an eagle eye and posture that said that he expected cigarette prices were going to tempt people to steal who normally wouldn't. Perhaps he was right. Perhaps he was wrong. Either way, while the environment is nice, clean, and inviting, the staff was not so much and I got the distinct impression that I was a burden upon his time. Interesting, given the idea that as a customer, my money helped pay his bills.
