Hookah Lounges in Utah
Hookah lounges in Utah
Utah is the hardest state in the country to find a hookah lounge. The Utah Indoor Clean Air Act has covered hookah since 2012, and only venues that qualified before then may still serve it indoors, so the scene runs on retail. Salt City Smoke and House of Hookahs supply Salt Lake City and West Valley City with tobacco and gear for sessions at home. Utah checks ID at 21 at every shop. Browse by city.

Hookah lounges in Utah - What to know
Utah's hookah scene is shaped by one law. In 2012 the state added hookah to the Utah Indoor Clean Air Act, which bans smoking in enclosed public places, and allowed only lounges that already met a narrow test on 1 January 2012 to keep serving under an exemption. That exemption was made permanent in 2017, but no new hookah lounge has been able to open indoors since, which is why a state of 3.4 million people has almost none. There is currently no dedicated hookah lounge listed on shisha.com anywhere in Utah.
What Utah does have is retail, concentrated in the Salt Lake Valley. Salt City Smoke, formerly House of Hookahs, at 805 South 900 West in Salt Lake City stocks tobacco and gear until 11 PM, and House of Hookahs runs two further shops, on Redwood Road and on 5600 West in West Valley City, the latter the best rated of the three at 4.6 across 267 reviews. Provo, Ogden, Sandy and Orem return nothing. Utah's tobacco purchase age has been 21 since July 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any hookah lounges in Utah?
Very few. The Utah Indoor Clean Air Act has covered hookah since 2012, and only lounges that qualified for an exemption before then can serve it indoors. None is currently listed on shisha.com, so most Utah hookah happens at home with tobacco from local shops.
Where can I buy shisha tobacco in Utah?
Salt Lake City and West Valley City. Salt City Smoke on South 900 West is open until 11 PM, and House of Hookahs has shops on Redwood Road and on 5600 West. Use the Where to Buy section above.
Are Utah hookah lounges 18+ or 21+?
21+. Utah raised its tobacco purchase age to 21 in July 2021, so any lounge or shop checks ID at 21.
Which city in Utah has the most hookah venues?
Salt Lake City, but only for retail: it holds the state's two Salt City Smoke and House of Hookahs listings. West Valley City has a third. No Utah city currently has a listed lounge.
Can I smoke hookah in a bar in Utah?
No. The Utah Indoor Clean Air Act bans smoking, including hookah, in bars and restaurants. The only exceptions are the few venues grandfathered under the 2012 exemption.
