Was on my way back to Sacramento from visiting family and desperately craving tri tip done the central coast way. Up north all the bbq is done Texas style and just not what I wanted. I wanted bbq the way I grew up with. Saw this place on Google Maps and decided to grab something for the road. Their menu looks great and I've made a note to come back. I got their tri tip sandwich and it comes with fries. The meat was perfectly done and nicely seasoned. I loved the addition of pickled onions and arugula to the sandwich! Fries were fresh and the right amount of crunch! It was super dead when I stopped in but it was like 2pm on a Sunday so makes sense. Staff were super nice and welcoming. After, I drove through SJB's little historic downtown/old town past the Mission. If I wasn't on a time crunch I would have taken my food and eaten it outside!

Food was delicious, everything had flavor. Service was amazing 👏 the sauces all have different pairings, and tasted great. Only complaint was certain parts of the brisket was a little dry but still tasted great. The beans had chunks of garlic and onions, so if you don't like that sort of thing I would order a different side, I personally enjoyed it. The Mac and cheese was creamy and tasty. Cornbread was crispy on the outside but still soft and moist on the inside with real pieces of corn in the bread. The honey jalapeño butter on the corn bread tasted great too, but couldn't really taste any of the jalapeño portion but then again I really love spicy foods and eat really hot chillies on a regular. All and all I definitely will come back again. Prices seems fair and they have toothpicks! lol
These people know their meat!!!! Brisket 10/5 juicy/fatty/flavorful… like me ;) Sausage 5/5 great flavor and seasoning, nice snap Tri-tip 4/5 great flavor but dry, cooked past medium Sides 1/5 Ok- the hard part is the sides, like no one cares about the sides and I share this hopeful that they will be action. Cesar salad $11 with about $1 worth of ingredients, it’s concave in the bowl with some bagged Parmesan on it. “Loaded” baked potato $12 with less than probably $2 with of cheese, bacon and some watered down sour cream. Not even salt and peppered or with butter- super dry and underwhelming (it’s a baked potato guys it take minimum effort to make it delicious) Mac & cheese probably the most disappointing while it’s a fair size serving it’s kinda like a box of kraft but less flavor- now it has a slightly flour texture so if they make it from scratch it’s not cooked long enough so the raw flour texture is still there and 💯 absent of flavor Banana pudding $9 3.5/5 they use some artificial jello base so it makes it bouncy but it’s not that bad and it’s a pint Ice tea- was cloudy so tastes old and watered down at the same time- they took it off the bill The sauces on the table were great variety and most tasted so good! Service - great, our waitress was super enthusiastic and lovely to interact with. Cute bbq shop and I’m glad we stopped by on the way to Santa Cruz.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was great. The brisket is amazing! Tender, juicy and smoky. Sausages were great with a small kick from the jalapeños. Robs were great and not too sweet. Tri tip a bit dry and overcooked. The fries were crispy, the baked beans were smoky and tasty, and Mac n cheese was ok. Banana pudding was fresh and not too sweet. I would recommend this place and give them a solid 4.5 stars. Well done!
Got the 24h brisket with 2 sides. All was good although the brisket was a bit dry for my taste. With a beer and tax - $35. You judge the pricing. But anyway, good food, nice atmosphere, great music. I stayed outside where was not as fun as inside (at least during the November days I assume); overall a good experience in a nice town.
