Let me be very clear upfront: The Glass House is a great shop! BUT BUYER BEWARE! Great variety, fair pricing, a clean and professional environment, and staff that is friendly and knowledgeable. My first two visits were genuinely positive, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Moving from New York (a recreationally legal state) to Texas has made navigating Farm Bill–compliant cannabis a learning experience. After several hit-or-miss shops, I truly believed I had found my go-to spot here. The issue is not the store, the staff, or even the overall product lineup—it’s the complete lack of discretion when an extenuating circumstance occurred. Over the last week, I had purchased close to an ounce with no issues. On my most recent visit, I stopped in to purchase an eighth (3.5g) of a new strain. While choosing between two options, I was advised that one strain had been sitting for a while. Based on that information, I chose the other strain. The display bags did not feel dry. Five minutes after leaving the store, I opened the product at home and immediately realized it was extremely dry. Two hits in, it burned my throat, gave me a headache, and tasted like hay. This was especially disappointing because the Topz brand has consistently been excellent for me in the past—so much so that I had begun shifting my loyalty away from other local shops and toward The Glass House. I returned to the store immediately—within minutes of purchase—with the product, requesting only an exchange, not a refund. I even brought back the small amount that had been ground up to show transparency and good faith. I was told there are absolutely no exchanges or returns. This is where the frustration lies. I fully understand store policies. I also understand personal responsibility. However, this was an organic product issue entirely outside of my control. There was no misuse, no delay, no attempt to gain something for free—just an honest request to exchange a clearly dried-out product moments after purchase. Extenuating circumstances matter. Even law enforcement—arguably the most policy-driven profession there is—operates with discretion. Rules exist to guide judgment, not replace it entirely. When discretion disappears, policy stops serving people and starts pushing them away. For a $40 eighth, this isn’t about the money—it’s about principle. Refusing to stand behind a product that failed due to age or storage sends the wrong message, especially to loyal customers. As an 8-year smoke and vape shop owner myself, I can say confidently: making something right in moments like this builds trust and long-term success. Losing a little on one transaction is nothing compared to losing a customer who purchases daily. To be clear, I do not fault the staff. They were polite, professional, and clearly just following store policy. The shop itself is solid, well-run, and has a lot going for it. My hope in leaving this review is constructive: rotate flower stock like the organic product it is, and allow room for discretion when extenuating circumstances arise. The Glass House has everything it needs to be a top-tier shop—this is just one policy that deserves reconsideration. Still sending appreciation and good vibes, even when disappointed 🤘🤘
