Hookah lounges in Connecticut - What to know
Connecticut's hookah lounges live inside the state's smoking ban. Smoking has been prohibited in restaurants and bars since 2004, so the lounges that opened afterwards run without alcohol or food service and each needs a licence from its town's police chief. The exception is New Haven's Mediterranea Cafe at 140 Orange Street, which was serving hookah before the ban and still pairs a full Middle Eastern menu with the pipe; at 4.4 across 210 reviews it is the most-reviewed hookah room in the state. Synergy Hookah Lounge on Campbell Avenue in West Haven, ten minutes away, is the late option, open from 10 PM until 3 AM at weekends.
Bridgeport has the latest rooms. Hookah Kingz at 160 Fairfield Avenue downtown runs Friday and Saturday nights only, from 11 PM until 4 AM, and Off Da Hookah at 250 Knowlton Street on the East Side runs Thursday to Sunday, until 4 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Hartford's NightSky Hookah Lounge on Pratt Street, rated 4.6, is currently marked temporarily closed. Retail runs deeper than the lounge count: Smoke and Hookah Outlet in Waterbury has 374 reviews, and Hartford has Up In Smoke on Broad Street. Connecticut's tobacco purchase age has been 21 since October 2019.
