​I am writing this review to share my incredibly disappointing experience with It's Just Smoke and cupcakes. For a close friend’s milestone 50th birthday, I wanted to gift her a show-stopping centerpiece. I requested a high-fashion, sophisticated cake inspired by Chanel and Louis Vuitton aesthetics. I provided a clear reference photo (see attached) featuring intricate red sugar roses, a ruffled black fondant "skirt," and elegant hand-painted stiletto heels. What I received was not even a distant cousin of the cake I ordered. ​The "Expectation vs. Reality" here is staggering. First, the artistry: the original design relied on handcrafted sugar-work. Instead of the delicate, paper-thin red roses I requested, the bakery simply stuck a few wilted, real roses into the frosting. The petals were already bruising by the time I picked it up. ​Second, the structural elements were completely ignored. The black ruffled "skirt"—which gives the cake its fashion-forward silhouette—was entirely missing. Even worse, the signature hand-painted stiletto heels (the most important part of the theme!) were nowhere to be found. Instead, they slapped a single, cheap-looking green champagne bottle decal on the side. It looked like a last-minute sticker from a grocery store. ​Third, the technical execution was substandard. I paid for a smooth, professional finish. The reference photo shows a flawless, matte white surface. My cake arrived with lumpy, uneven buttercream and visible spatula marks. The elegant gold and rose-gold metallic spheres were replaced with clumpy navy blue and dull gold balls that didn’t match the requested color palette at all. ​When you commission a custom cake for a 50th birthday, you are paying for professional skill and attention to detail. This was my gift to a dear friend, and I was embarrassed to present it. The lack of communication regarding these major "shortcuts" is unprofessional. If a bakery cannot execute a specific design, they should say so upfront rather than delivering a low-effort imitation. Please look at the side-by-side photos before trusting this shop with your special occasion.

I was blown away with how good these cupcakes tasted. I’m typically not a cupcake kind of sweets person because they basically all taste the same to me, with a little difference in frosting and flavor profile, but these are completely different from those. You taste all three layers and they combine together perfectly! From the frosting, tosponge and then the filling,it all comes together for a magical bite. I can honestly say these are the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. Nothing compares to them.!!!

BEST CUPCAKES HANDS DOWN. I was pleasantly surprised at how good these were. The espresso cupcake is soo good 🥹😍 I’ll be back. My son loved his red velvet cupcake!!! 10/10

I tasted these cupcakes totally not knowing what I was getting myself into. A burst of flavor and a connection with two amazing store owners. They are both sweet and you can tell passionate about baking. Looking forwards to purchasing and connecting with them again. I don’t have no photos because I ate it too quick. Go get you some cupcakes where you can live in the moment. Coming from you new fans, current, and future customers Keke & Tye!
