Absolutely amazing shop and service! I’ve wanted to visit for many years and finally had the opportunity this past week. I was not disappointed. Doug helped guide me into my newest pipe acquisition and was quite the gentleman. His knowledge of pipes and tobaccos was truly remarkable and I was treated like royalty when it came to service. I wish my local tobacconist had this same quality of service and selection. I will definitely make this a priority stop whenever in the Chicago area and greatly recommend everyone else who enjoys premium cigars and timeless tobacco pipes do the same. 5 stars!

Heard so many great things about this place, the oldest tobacco shop in the US and so had to stop by while in town. The service was amazing and helpful. The place smelled like tobacco heaven. I popped into the lounge and the vibe varied depending on what you are looking for, from chill to a sports lounge. They charge for a day pass to smoke and it's BYOB. Will try to make it back one evening this wkd.

I had a wonderful experience thanks to Douglas and the other staff. I took my mom to buy cigar for family and friends, and Douglas was offering top tier service including packaging, wrapping, and showing us the cigar lounge. His mandarin is amazing too, saved my mom a lot of hassle to explain her needs. Will def come back if need cigars in future!

If you like tobacco at all you have to go. Saw it when walking by and decided to stop in, best decision. My husband was greeted by Douglas who provided the best customer service and definitely has made Iwan Ries & Co somewhere we will stop every time we visit Chicago. Douglas broke down all instructions barney style and is amazingly knowledgeable in anything tobacco. On top of the amazing customer service, the shop itself is gorgeous and well kept. Definitely one of the best spots in Chicago.

This is certainly the best tobacconist in Chicago. Iwan Ries is worthy of all the praise and notoriety they have accumulated over their long and storied history. When you walk into the shop, you can feel the history around you, and you feel comforted by the warm tobacco infused air. The gentlemen who work here are some great people who are extremely knowledgeable, accommodating, and will make you feel right at home, especially after a couple of return visits. I believe it is important to support and preserve businesses like this and so despite Chicago’s high taxes, I will always choose to buy my speciality tobacco here when I can. The shop is in the Loop, so parking can be difficult. Rather, I recommend slowing down and taking the train, going to the shop to purchase and enjoy the cigar, and really make an experience out of your visit. It is truly a treat whenever I need to visit Iwan Ries and I will continue to support this shop.
