Hookah lounges in Kansas - What to know
Kansas has banned smoking in enclosed public places since the Indoor Clean Air Act took effect in July 2010, and the only route a hookah lounge can take to serve indoors is the tobacco shop exemption, which requires at least 65 percent of gross receipts to come from tobacco. That single rule explains the shape of the scene. Where operators have built around it, lounges cluster and last; where they have not, whole suburbs come up empty. Local ordinances can be stricter than the state law, so the map is uneven even inside one metro. Wichita is the centre of gravity. King Coal Hookah Lounge and Bar on North Hillside is the best rated in the state at 4.7, the two Mediterranean Hookah Cafe sites cover Maize Road and South Seneca, and Heat Lounge on Rock Road runs a genuine late-night session. In the Kansas City metro the lounges sit in Lenexa rather than Overland Park: Ajwaa Hookah Lounge on Quivira Road holds a 5.0, and Hookah Cafe Lounge on College Boulevard has 343 reviews. Lawrence adds Hookah House on Massachusetts Street for the KU crowd. Expect $10 to $30 a head statewide.

Around ten are currently listed on shisha.com. Six are in Wichita, three are in Lenexa in the Kansas City metro, and one is in Lawrence. Overland Park, Olathe, Topeka and Kansas City, Kansas have none listed.
Which city in Kansas has the most hookah lounges?
Wichita. Its venues run along Rock Road, 21st Street North, Hillside near Wichita State, West 13th Street and Maize Road. Lenexa is second with three.
Are Kansas hookah lounges 18+ or 21+?
21+. Kansas lounges serve indoors under the Indoor Clean Air Act's tobacco shop exemption, and the federal tobacco purchase age is 21, so venues check ID at 21.

The metro's lounges sit just west in Lenexa instead.
